Biography

Karen Liu is an occupational therapist who has practiced in Australia, Hong Kong and USA for over 30 years. She received a PhD in 2002 in rehabilitation sciences specialising in neurological rehabilitation. Karen is a Fellow of the Occupational Therapy Australia Research Academy. Her areas of clinical, teaching, and research include physical and neurological rehabilitation, paediatric and geriatric rehabilitation.

Research Interests

Karen's current research focus includes using cognitive strategies such as mental imagery and self-regulation in rehabilitation to enhance functional regain in older adults and different clinical conditions. She also researches using various strategies to improve learning in children with developmental disabilities. One of her current projects involves educating caregivers using effective strategies in assisting people with dementia. She is also interested in using physical activities to enhance people’s cognitive and physical functioning.
