Professor Craig Gonsalvez
Professor in Clinical Psychology
Biography
Craig completed his clinical psychology training including his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the National Institute for Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), University of Bangalore, India. He had extensive experience as a senior clinician (Senior Clinical Psychologist, Director of Anxiety Disorders Clinic at Westmead Hospital, Deputy Head, Department of Medical Psychology, Westmead Hospital) before taking up a clinical psychology training position at the School of Psychology, University of Wollongong.
In addition to his research, Craig is an experienced clinician, and has expertise in clinical psychology training and clinical supervision
He has served several terms as Director of Clinical Psychology Training at the University of Wollongong (1997-1998; 2001-2004; 2008-2010)
He has held several senior executive positions in clinical psychology at the national level including:
- National Chair of Course Approvals, APS Clinical College (2005-2010)
- Accreditation site assessor for the APS Clinical College (2003 - current)
Invited to design and deliver the APS Institute's clinical supervisor training program (2013-2014), currently delivered as accredited supervisor training workshops (by Psychology Board of Australia) around Australia
He has received several awards for contributions to clinical psychology practice and teaching, including
- 2009 APS College of Clinical Psychologists AWARD of DISTINCTION
- 2016 Citation for Teaching Excellence, Australian Awards for University Teaching
- 2017 Award for Teaching Excellence, Australian Awards for University Teaching
